VOLUNTEERS

Are you looking for a way to give back to your community, to connect with others and to be part of something meaningful and heart-warming?

Come! Volunteer with us! Join our team at North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association (NFTRA) and help us change lives through the power of horses!

Our Therapeutic Riding Program depends on volunteers, as many riders require assistance in the riding arena, and our volunteers are there to help the riders and the instructors.

Volunteers for the Riding Program work with the riders and horses in many areas:

  • Grooming: Program horses being used in each lesson need to be groomed (hooves cleaned, coats curried and brushed, manes and tails combed)
  • Tacking: Once groomed, the horses’ tack (saddle pad, saddle, girth strap) is put on, and they are taken into the arena for the instructor to complete tacking up of the horse. (neck strap, bridle, reins)
  • Leading: Each horse taken into the arena needs to have a volunteer who leads the horse in each lesson. They are responsible for the actions of the horse.
  • Sidewalking: One or 2 sidewalkers may be needed to keep the riders safe and stable in the saddle.

Don’t worry if you think you aren’t experienced enough, as training is always provided to all who volunteer with the riders and horses and is upgraded when needed.

In addition, volunteers may be needed for:

  • Office Help
  • General repairs/maintenance
  • Social media, photography, promotions
  • Fundraising
  • Planning and helping with events
  • Cleaning paddocks
  • And miscellaneous tasks that arise!

We are currently accepting new Volunteer Applications for every day of the work week.

Once you have submitted your application, our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you.

We welcome High School students looking to complete their work placement or volunteer hours. You must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer here.
